Today, Joe examines two stories that raise serious questions about government priorities, public safety and the integrity of our elections.
First, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is defending his vote to pardon Tou Lue Vang, a foreign national convicted of repeatedly sexually assaulting a girl beginning when she was only ten years old. The abuse reportedly continued for years. Vang allegedly tried to buy the child’s silence for $10, dismissed his actions as a “minor thing” and attempted to blame cultural differences. Yet Walz later described the case as a man being judged for his “worst day.”
Joe asks the obvious question: How can years of repeated abuse against a child be reduced to one bad day? The victim has the right to forgive—but does personal forgiveness require the government to erase the conviction and help a convicted child sex offender avoid deportation?
Then, Joe turns to election security. The Trump administration is warning states that federal election funding should come with federal election-security standards. States receiving taxpayer money to administer federal elections should be required to verify voter eligibility, cooperate with citizenship checks, maintain accurate voter rolls and remove people who are legally ineligible to participate.
The recent admission that thousands of noncitizens were improperly registered through a state motor-vehicle system demonstrates that government assurances and automated safeguards can fail. Joe explains why automatic voter registration is dangerous, why silence should never equal registration and why voting must remain an affirmative civic act reserved for American citizens.
Congress must pass the SAVE America Act. Proof of citizenship when registering, identification when voting and accurate, regularly audited voter rolls are not voter suppression—they are the minimum requirements for election integrity.
