TODAY on The Joe Mangiacotti Show — we have a full board, and as always, YOU can change the rundown!
WHAT DID LAST NIGHT’S PRIMARIES TELL US?
There were some fascinating results—and some warning signs for both parties. In Florida, progressive Democrat and Democratic Socialists of America member Angie Nixon upset Alex Vindman for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination. What does another victory for the progressive/socialist wing tell us about the direction of the Democratic Party?
Are traditional Democrats comfortable with where their party is heading? And let’s get beyond political labels: Where does progressivism end, where does democratic socialism begin, and how far are Democratic voters actually willing to go?
FLORIDA PUT THE “DAY” BACK IN ELECTION DAY
Remember hanging chads and the election disaster of 2000? Florida went from national embarrassment to one of the fastest large states in America at producing election-night results. Once again last night, Florida rapidly reported the overwhelming majority of its vote. How does Florida do it—and why can’t every state? Early ballot processing, hard deadlines, paper ballots, electronic scanning, audits and rapid reporting. Does faster counting increase public confidence, or are slower states right to prioritize additional time for late-arriving and provisional ballots?
A POLITICAL STORY YOU MAY NOT HAVE HEARD
Three prominent Black Republicans are now gubernatorial nominees: Byron Donalds in Florida, John James in Michigan and Lisa Demuth in Minnesota. Each has an opportunity to make history. We’re constantly told diversity and representation matter in American politics—does it matter just as much when the candidate is a conservative Republican? And are Americans finally beginning to move beyond the assumption that race determines political affiliation?
THE LINDSAY CLANCY TRIAL
If time permits, we’ll turn to one of the most difficult and closely watched Massachusetts trials in years. The Commonwealth has rested and Lindsay Clancy’s defense is presenting its case. The defense does not dispute that Clancy caused the deaths of her three children. The question is whether she was criminally responsible. Was this murder committed by someone who understood what she was doing—or the catastrophic result of severe postpartum mental illness and psychosis?
New testimony is putting that question squarely before the jury.
